SpaceX Rocket Fail

Space is hard, the saying goes. It s the default line trotted out anytime there is a rocket launch failure. On Sunday, when a SpaceX rocket exploded on the way to the International Space Station, that phrase was repeated over and over. Space flight s not easy, as we ve described before, and I think this points out the difficulty of and the challenges we face in spaceflight,Bill Gerstenmaier, associate administrator for NASA, said Sunday. SpaceX…

Space Master x 7 Atari

S.M. X-7 opens with a dry explanation from an authoritative scientific type: as America’s answer to the Soviet Sputnik, the “Space Master XM-712” (its full official title) was recently launched into orbit some 1 miles above the Earth. Stentorian-voiced trailer-narrating great Paul Frees (1920-1986) here gets a comparatively rare onscreen acting role as egghead Johns Hopkins biologist Dr. Charles T. Pommer, who hopes that the returning titular satellite…

What is SpaceX in McGregor?

In a NASA TV Press conference, before the first pad abort, Hans Konnigsman noted that the pad abort will not be using a full rocket underneath it. (Makes sense, why potentially damage a $50 million vehicle that is not really needed). He also said that they would not be using the full Transport Erector either. Thus these parts looks like they may be the truss and a mounting bracket for the pad abort. Or they may be development models that were later…

SpaceX lc-40

When I was watching the F-9 Flight 8 they showed some footage of the launcher on the pad. I grabbed this screen grab that looks like they might have added to the T/E as as shoulders for the F-H launches. (This is from the SES launch campaign). Though I found a shot of the base of the T/E in the hangar, and there is not yet room for two more cores on the blast pad at the base. Actually that is a Dragon on the top (You can see the solar panels) so…

Is SpaceX a Publicly traded Company

By The Lex Column Most businesses are more straightforward than rocket science. Resupplying the International Space Station is not one of them. But plenty of companies are up for the challenge – there has been a proliferation of private space companies in the US over the past decade. Nasa will award space station resupply contracts worth billions of dollars later this year. But both frontrunners – privately owned SpaceX and publicly traded Orbital…

SpaceX Mars Application

It is no secret that NASA is seeking out private space contractors to help bring some of its current plans to fruition. Naturally, these involve restoring indigenous launch capabilities to the US, but also include the more far-reaching goal of sending astronauts to Mars. Towards that end, NASA and SpaceX participated in an unprecedented data-sharing project that will benefit them both. The project took place on Sept. 21st when, after multiple attempts…

SpaceX Failure

It was the third unmanned cargo mission destined for the ISS that has failed in recent months. But it is the first unsuccessful attempt by SpaceX - the space exploration company headed by Tesla s Elon Musk. The setback left everyone - including SpaceX and NASA - with many questions. Here s what we know so far: What went wrong? No one is sure yet. About two minutes after Dragon lifted off, the rocket began to break apart. SpaceX said it will conduct…
