Administrators from IDEA Public Schools in Brownsville were taking applications for the 2015-2016 school year.
Michael Vargas assistant principal of operations at IDEA of Brownsville said the event provided an excellent opportunity to meet with potential students and their families amid the excitement and anticipation of SpaceX.
“The future of SpaceX aligns with our values to make no excuses and set high expectations for our students, “ Vargas said.
Gilbert Salinas, executive vice president of the Brownsville Economic Development Council, said the event was collaboration among many organizations in the community, such as the Brownsville Independent School District, BEDC and the University of Texas at Brownsville.
“This was an opportunity to come together and celebrate how the community came out in full force to support SpaceX, “ Salinas said.
Denise and Oziel Chavez attended the celebration with their 3-year-old daughter Victoria in tow. Denise said they were originally from Brownsville but left for college and lived in Dallas before recently returning to Brownsville.
Denise said she is glad the family returned to the area to raise their young daughter. “I think SpaceX will bring a lot of visibility to this area. It shows we made the right decision to raise our daughter here, “ Denise said.
