An audacious attempt by SpaceX to recycle a launch rocket has ended in spectacular failure.
Last Saturday, the Dragon cargo capsule was successfully launched by the Falcon 9 rocket - with 23-hundred kilograms of supplies onboard - to the International Space Station. But, the company has released images of its attempt to bring the rocket back down safely.
The footage shows the rocket attempting to land on a barge, but instead being destroyed as it came in to land at a 45-degree angle. The SpaceX says the rocket's land-supports and engine were severely damaged.
Most of the world's launch rockets are only used once, but SpaceX tried to change this by accurately landing the rocket on a platform. They say their success rate is at best 50 percent.
